Highly-regarded quarterback Malachi Nelson is embarking on a new journey, having officially committed to transfer to Syracuse. Nelson's collegiate path began with considerable anticipation at USC, where he was celebrated as one of the nation's premier passers coming out of high school, ranked as the No. 11 overall recruit and the No. 5 quarterback. However, his time with the Trojans was limited, seeing action in only one game during his true freshman season, overshadowed by Heisman winner Caleb Williams and backup Miller Moss. Opting for a fresh start rather than competing for a backup role, Nelson entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. His subsequent transfer to Boise State also proved challenging, as he struggled to secure the starting position against incumbent Maddux Madsen, appearing in just three games for the Broncos. Following this, he joined UTEP, where he experienced his most extensive playing time to date.
