A Compacted Finale for a Compelling Narrative
Revising the Original Vision: From Three Acts to Two
Launched in November 2025, "Ambrosia Sky: Act One" introduced players to Dalia, a researcher exploring her fungus-ridden former space station. The original plan involved two more paid expansions. However, Soft Rains has decided to condense the remaining story into "Ambrosia Sky: Act Two," which will be released as a free update later this year.
The Studio's Rationale: Maximizing Focus and Impact
According to Soft Rains, this consolidation allows them to dedicate all development efforts to creating a coherent, refined, and emotionally resonant ending to Dalia's quest for answers and her lost home. They aim to provide a definitive resolution to the questions posed in Act One, introducing new locations, fungi challenges, and an enhanced progression system.
Player Feedback at the Core of the Decision
In discussions, Soft Rains' narrative director Kait Tremblay and studio head Joel Burgess revealed that player feedback was the primary catalyst for this change. The strong emotional investment from players in Dalia's journey, particularly her connections and yearning, demonstrated the need for a more direct and impactful conclusion.
Maintaining Narrative Momentum: A Tighter Arc
Tremblay emphasized the importance of preserving the emotional momentum established in Act One. Prolonging the story over multiple acts risked diluting the player's engagement. By delivering the conclusion in two parts, the developers believe the narrative's pacing will flow more naturally, allowing the emotional build-up to continue uninterrupted.
Prioritizing the Core Story: Avoiding Detours
Burgess added that the initial three-act structure would have heavily relied on a subplot from Act One, which increasingly felt like a diversion from what players genuinely cared about. The shift ensures that the most compelling aspects of Dalia's story remain at the forefront.
The Power of Player Connection: "Sapphic Yearning" and Emotional Investment
Tremblay expressed surprise at how quickly players connected with the dynamic between Maeve and Dalia, noting the immediate embrace of the "sapphic yearning." This rapid emotional attachment provided invaluable data, reinforcing the decision to create a more focused and impactful narrative experience.
Embracing an Iterative Development Approach
Both Tremblay and Burgess highlighted the benefits of their episodic development model. It allowed them to release a game with a strong identity and mechanical foundation, while also gaining crucial player validation. This feedback, typically delayed in traditional production cycles, informed their strategic pivot for Ambrosia Sky's conclusion.
Availability and Pricing: An Enhanced Experience
"Ambrosia Sky: Act One" is currently available on Steam. Existing owners will receive Act Two as a free update. Upon Act Two's release, the game's price for new buyers will increase from $15 to $25, reflecting the expanded and complete experience. Additionally, a 15% discount on Act One is available until March 13, offering an opportune moment to embark on Dalia's stor
